Literacy is Life

By Tran Huong

My name is Huong, I am from Vietnam.

I am learning in LINC [Language Instruction for New Canadians] 5 at Windsor school. My teacher is Craita.  I came here 2 years ago. The first time when I came here, I couldn’t communicate with everyone here, everything was strange with me, the culture, human, religious and so on.

I felt lonely and became silent.

Sometime I thought one day I would go back to Vietnam because i was too sad and bored here. One day had a man told me to register to learn English. I chose LINC program and my life have changed from that day.

I don’t know to use any words to say about teachers here. They are too kind, they consider students like their children, when someone have problem they comfort and give some advice. They have a kind heart. They help me to understand about the culture and human here.

Day by day I feel happier, more confident when I can communicate with everyone outside. I have chance to meet many people from around the world and learn experience from the people who come here before me from LINC.

I am happy when now I have good classmates, I have a good teacher who always cares for me and help me become more confident.

I am appreciate and sincere thankful teachers here, they are very very amazing. LINC program is good system. It have helped who is newcomer like me can go out side and talk with everyone. I wish every teacher health.

This story is Huong’s submission about overcoming a challenge which was submitted to our Literacy is Life contest in September, 2016.
