A British Columbia Workforce Literacy and Essential Skills Plan

The British Columbia Workforce Literacy and Essential Skills Plan is designed to provide future generations of adult learners with literacy and essential skills to thrive in the workforce. It outlines eight strategies for developing a collaborative, learner-centred, workforce-oriented, evidence-based and sustainable approach to literacy and essential skills training:

  1. Increase literacy and essential skills (LES) program capacity.
  2. Increase literacy and essential skills (LES) program quality.
  3. Reduce the need for adult workforce literacy and essential skills (LES) programming.
  4. Increase business capacity to support literacy and essential skills (LES) development.
  5. Enhance engagement and understanding between literacy and essential skills (LES) providers and employers.
  6. Clearly describe te workforce literacy and essential skills (LES) system.
  7. Develop a policy framework for Workforce LES.
  8. Provide strong coordination and leadership.
