Young People and Mental Health in a Changing World
Date posted: October 10, 2018
Today is World Mental Health Day. This year’s theme is Young People and Mental Health in a Changing World.
Did you know that half of all mental illness begins by the age of 14, but most cases go undetected and untreated? To learn more, read the World Health Organization’s Adolescent mental health fact sheet.
In BC, the Kelty Mental Health Resource Centre is the provincial source for mental health and substance use information, resources, and peer support for children, youth and families. Foundry is another BC initiative for young people’s health (ages 12-24), including mental health. Both sites contain lots of information and resources for young people, parents, teachers and educators.
Breathr is a made-in-BC app that they both recommend. It provides opportunities for youth to try out mindfulness practices and learn about the brain science behind them.
