Are you interested in enriching the reading life of a child?
Learn how best to support a child’s reading at home with wee read and pee wee read. Calgary Reads has digitized their volunteer training program that supports one-to-one reading in schools. The online course is available for free to parents, grandparents, caregivers and anyone else who has an important role in a child’s life.
The wee read program supports adults in enriching the reading lives of five to seven-year-olds, while pee wee read focuses on reading supports for three to five-year-olds. Over the course of an hour and seven different modules, participants are shown strategies to make reading aloud fun, to strengthen ‘serve and return’ conversations, and to feel more confident in their own ability to share books with a child.
By taking time to read together and have fun with those building blocks of early literacy, you’re also fostering a special connection and bond with that child. At a time when a lot of us are feeling disconnected, or maybe even too hyper-connected, it’s a simple, beautiful way to spend time together. – Alex May, Director of Programs and Initiatives, Calgary Reads.
