Online Reading Material for Adult Learners
Date posted: October 20, 2015
The Center for the Study of Adult Literacy has a library of online texts for adult learners. This library contains over 1,600 different materials for learners to read. The texts are categorized by both reading level (Easier, Medium, Harder) and topic (Health, Food, Babies, Children, Teenagers, Families, Advice, Non-Fiction, Fiction, Jobs and Work, Money, History, Science, and Other).
All of the reading materials exist on external websites and have been reviewed for readability level and subject matter by CSAL researchers at the University of Memphis and Georgia State University. The goal of this library is to collect web-based texts that are written for adult learners. These texts cover different topics from many different external website sources.
Instructions are included on each library page to help guide learners in using the library. Some assistance may be required. Click here to access the library.
This library is part of a research project that explores the underlying processes that help or hinder adults who are learning to read, and it developing and evaluating a reading curriculum for adult learners. This project includes Canadian as well as American researchers. Learn more about this research here.
