NewToBC is an initiative that was created to support public libraries in Metro Vancouver to help people who are new to BC.  Public libraries are an important resource for immigrants, and this project promotes the programs, services and resources available to newcomers in their community.

While this project was designed for libraries in Metro Vancouver and links to community services in that region, it has information that is valuable for all areas in the province.  There is a database of recommended English as an Additional Language (EAL) resources organized by format (books, websites, multimedia), language level (pre-literacy to CLB 7) and language skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing).  View it here.

There’s also an informative list of resources for newcomers to Canada to help them make a home in BC, improve their English, and obtain employment.  View it here.

If you work with newcomers, this project’s website is well worth a visit.

For information about Decoda’s work with those who have recently moved to BC, see our online resource.
