North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week started on May 6th and ends May 12th. This year’s theme is Making Safety a Habit.

In 2015, Decoda published a workplace health and safety curriculum. Building Resilient Workers: Health and Safety at Work was a collaboration between the BCFED Health & Safety Centre and Decoda Literacy Solutions. The project was funded by WorkSafeBC, which is dedicated to promoting workplace health and safety for the workers and employers of BC.

Building Resilient Workers: Health and Safety at Work Facilitator Guide covers five modules:

  • Rights and Responsibilities,
  • Hazards in the Workplace,
  • Workplace First Aid,
  • Ergonomics
  • Workplace Violence.

Reading, writing and oral communication activities are embedded in the health and safety content. Health and Safety at Work is the accompanying student workbook.

Both resources are available free online or may be purchased from the Decoda store.

A digital badge is available to participants who complete all five modules. To learn more, contact Margaret Sutherland.
