Mothers’ Mental Health Toolkit
Date posted: May 9, 2014
The Mothers’ Mental Health Toolkit is a free online resource (link to PDF) designed for community support providers who work with vulnerable mothers and their families. In workbook format, it includes information for service providers and information and worksheets for mothers about mental health promotion, education, screening, intervention and advocacy.
It begins with a focus on adaptation to motherhood and the principles of wellness and self-care. It then looks at risks for mental health problems. Potential screening tools and simple explanations of interventions and treatments are included. It is not a diagnostic or treatment manual and not a self-help manual for mothers, but a community starting point for recognizing and describing distress. It is also a resource for community practitioners to develop their understanding of maternal mental health. Additional resources for practitioners are available here and here.
