We’re playing Literacy Month Bingo at Decoda!

The first square we’re tackling is ‘Do a jigsaw puzzle’.

How are jigsaw puzzles a literacy activity? Working on jigsaw puzzles develops cognitive skills, such as:

  • Shape recognition
  • Colour recognition
  • Working memory
  • Goal setting
  • Problem solving

For young children, it enhances hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills in addition to spatial skills. If done in a group, a jigsaw puzzle promotes cooperation and collaboration. These are all skills that support school readiness.

If you find working on a jigsaw puzzle enjoyable and relaxing, you’re not alone. Read about another enthusiast in The 1 Item Bill Gates Almost Always Brings Along When Going On Vacation.
