COVID-19 Rapid Response Report from the Field
Date posted: August 31, 2020
How has the adult education field responded to the COVID-19 pandemic? What have educators done and what lessons have they learned?
COVID-19 Rapid Response Report from the Field uses survey and interview data to get a glimpse of what American educators experienced, how they adapted and what issues arose. The report is organized around nine recurring themes:
- How programs implemented distance education
- Technology: access and capacity issues
- Learner enrollment and classroom engagement
- Learner support
- How the job changed
- Professional development
- Program changes
- Silver linings
Each theme includes key takeaways and innovations/recommendations.
Given the new normal that COVID-19 has brought upon us all, there is a clear imperative for investment in technology tools, hardware and broadband, professional development, and research that can insure all learners participate in high quality education, whether it is offered in a face-to-face, distance, or blended format. This report begins to paint the picture of where the field is with this now, and where it needs to go to more fully accomplish this.
