CIWA Health Literacy Resources

Limited language and literacy skills can be a barrier to accessing healthcare services. The Calgary Immigrant Women’s Association has launched a new set of free Health Literacy Resources that are designed to help. Created for literacy professionals working with adult beginning language and literacy learners, the resources include videos, basic readers and workbooks as well as a Teacher’s Guidebook.

There are also resources for healthcare providers, including a Guidebook for Healthcare Professionals, describing strategies for communicating with patients who are English language learners and have limited literacy skills in their first language.
