BC Summer Reading Club 2016
Date posted: June 13, 2016
Every year public libraries throughout BC sponsor a summer reading club for children. This is a free, fun summer program that supports literacy.
The theme for BC Summer Reading Club 2016 is “Book a Trip”. This includes seven weekly sub-themes:
1. Explore your own backyard
2. Discover the universe
3. Wander into the past
4. Tour the world
5. Travel using your imagination
6. Journey by train, plane, automobile
7. Play around the globe.
With activities and book suggestions for each sub-theme for preschool, primary and tween age groups, an interactive summer reading club website for children, and a librarian at the public library to encourage participation, this club is a strong support for summer reading.
Something that community programs might want to be aware of is a letter for parents in multiple languages on The Value of Summer Reading.
