Message from the Executive Director
I am always amazed by the ability of people to come together in times of need.
In all corners of the province, literacy programs are responding to help their communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. They are supporting learners and families in so many ways, providing support for online learning, helping people access government support and providing care packs for families in need. I’m pleased to share some of these remarkable stories in this issue.
At Decoda, we provide leadership and offer our support through:
- up-to-date information in our Read All About Lit blog
- online training and support
- online resources
- online editions of The Westcoast Reader
BC’s literacy community has stood up to the challenge. But many programs face increased costs as a result of the pandemic and local fundraisers have been cancelled.
We recognize that BC literacy programs need funds now and will in the months to come as communities start to rebuild.
In response, Decoda has launched a special appeal: Literacy matters more than ever! The money raised will go to support communities in BC. You can give where you live, or give to the area of greatest need. I hope you can help!
Best of all, each gift up to a total of $10,000 will be matched dollar for dollar, thanks to the generosity of a group of Decoda staff, Board members and long-term donors!
During this time of crisis, I would like to acknowledge our Board of Directors and the Decoda staff team. I’ve never been prouder to work alongside such a team of caring and devoted professionals.
In the words of Dr. Bonnie Henry, “Remember, this is not forever. We’re going to get through this.”
P.S. Literacy affects every aspect of our lives. Please support BC communities with a gift to our special appeal: Literacy matters more than ever!
