Workplace Wednesday: Women in the trades

Recently, the Industry Training Authority of B.C. (ITA) released Leveling the Field: Best Practices Guide to Employing Women in the Trades. Leveling the Field was developed to help employers address the barriers women meet in gaining and retaining employment in the trades. It doesn’t promote hiring women rather than men, but looks at employment practices that are equitable.
The guide includes information on recruitment and hiring, orientation, safe and welcoming workplace, retention, and setting women up for success. It includes a checklist to help employers assess their workplace policies and practices for their support to all workers, including women.
