Workplace Wednesday: Elevate Canada
Date posted: October 30, 2013
Welcome to Workplace Wednesday, connecting you with resources that link literacy, business, industry, and the workplace.
Essential Skills Ontario has announced a new workforce development demonstration project – Elevate Canada: Raising the Grade for Food Processing. It will test the effectiveness of integrating job-specific skills with literacy and essential skills in the food processing industry. This initiative is being undertaken in conjunction with the Food Processing Human Resources Council (FPHRC).
This two-phase project will explicitly use elements from PIAAC, in particular the Job Requirement Approach (JRA) and problem solving in technology-rich environments (PS-TREs). To meet the higher skill levels in technology, food safety, and communications now required in entry-level occupations in the food industry, Elevate will train approximately 250 individuals who currently receive income support in Ontario.
