Date posted: March 3, 2014
Sharing the Journey with Adult Indigenous Learners: a teaching reading strategies guide by Patricia Pryce is a new resource from Bow Valley College.
Designed for practitioners working with Aboriginal adult learners, this guide includes a summary of philosophies, principles and teaching/learning strategies that reflect Aboriginal perspectives on teaching and learning. To access this guide, click here.
While this resource was developed to accompany the Alberta Reading Benchmarks (ARB) tool, the background information on teaching Aboriginal adult learners, general strategies for teaching reading and recommended reading resources are useful in other contexts (such as our Community Adult Literacy Benchmarks – Reading).
The resource section contains several books available in the Decoda library, including:
- Annotated Bibliography of Aboriginal Books
- Empowering the Spirit II: Native Literacy Curriculum
- The Scowling Frog
- Seven Generations graphic novel series
- Sweet Grass
- Two Old Women
