Many literacy practitioners are welcoming immigrants and refugees to their classes and tutoring sessions this month. In a recent Migration Matters information sheet, AMSSA provides a snapshot of the statistics on the literacy of newcomers in BC and summarizes best practices. If you are a BC literacy instructor or tutor working with an adult EAL literacy student, you can find resources to support your work in the Decoda Literacy Library. Here’s one of the newest titles:

The CLB: ESL for ALL Support Kit provides information and examples for planning literacy instruction and assessing progress, suggestions for working in multi-level literacy classes, sample resources, and reading and writing lesson plan samples for Foundation L to CLB 4L.

To borrow a library copy, email library@decoda.ca. This resource is also available online.

The library carries a range of materials for working with adult EAL literacy materials. Visit the library catalogue to browse the resources or email Tina at library@decoda.ca for suggestions or assistance.
