National Child Day
Date posted: November 20, 2013
Today is National Child Day in Canada and Universal Children’s Day around the world. November 20th was chosen to commemorate the anniversary of the United Nations’ adoption of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959 and their subsequent adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989. The Convention on the Rights of the Child is a widely accepted set of non-negotiable standards and obligations providing protection and support for the rights of children.
