Media Literacy Week 2016

Today is the start of Media Literacy Week.
Media Literacy Week highlights the importance of teaching children and teens digital and media literacy skills to help make sure their use of media for playing, learning and working is positive and enriching. This year’s theme is Makers and Creators, celebrating ways parents and teachers can help young people become more creative, innovative and entrepreneurial by learning about media production, remixing, maker and DIY culture and coding.
This event is led by MediaSmarts and the Canadian Teachers’ Federation. The featured workshop is That’s Not Me, a tutorial that examines how entertainment and news media represent diversity and the impact of that portray on the value we place on individuals and groups.
