If you are an ESL/LINC instructor and would like to include health topics in your teaching, Language Learning for Health is a series of resources, developed by Ottawa Public Health and the Ottawa-Carleton School Board, which you can use.

The most recent additions in this series focus on physical activity, dental health, and mental health. Previous lessons covered Canada’s Food Guide, food budgets, shopping for food, reading food labels, reducing salt consumption, calcium and vitamin D, diabetes prevention and sugared beverages.

For every topic there are three lesson plans, one each for Lit – CLB 1, CLB 2-3, and CLB 4-5. Every lesson plan includes instructor notes, a variety of easy-to-use activities, assessment tasks, and a self-reflection task.
