Every summer, the BC Library Association and public libraries throughout BC sponsor the BC Summer Reading Club. This year’s theme is Funny Business. Seven weekly sub-themes have been created:

  • Puns and games
  • Funny people
  • That’s gross!
  • Funny pages
  • Reading on the floor laughing
  • Something funny is going on here
  • Tales with a twist

Visit the BC Summer Reading Club website to find lists of books around the themes and a variety of activities for different age groups. You can also look at the materials that the libraries will be using for the club this summer. Even better, visit your local public library to see the materials in person.

Library clubs can be a good tool to help prevent summer reading loss in children. Read Do Kids Really Have ‘Summer Learning Loss’? for a summary of some of the research on preventing summer reading loss.
