Digital Citizenship: Guide for Parents

Date posted: September 19, 2017

Public Safety Canada and MediaSmarts have created  Digital Citizenship: Guide for Parents. The guide is designed to prepare parents for the conversations they need to have with their children when they first start using digital devices, as they grow and their online activities change, and when things go wrong. The guide is divided into three sections:  Respect People’s Feelings, Respect Privacy, and Respect Property.

The five key tips are:

  1. Don’t be scared!
  2. Talk to your kids.
  3. Be a part of your kids’ media lives.
  4. Be the person your kids come to when they have problems online.
  5. Set rules and communicate values.
