Books for children and youth
Date posted: June 27, 2014
Looking for books to build a library for children at home? The Association for Library Service to Children has updated their suggestions. As well as tried and true classics, their lists include under the radar gems, multicultural books, and new and notable titles. The lists have been created for parents and are available in easy to print brochures. People working with families are encouraged to distribute them to parents, grandparents and other caregivers. There are separate lists by age group: birth to age 3, ages 4 to 7, ages 8 to 11, and ages 12 to 14. Click here for the lists. (The books on these lists are also great suggestions for titles to borrow from your local library.)
Want more reading suggestions? The Children’s Choices and Young Adults’ Choices are lists of recommended reads chosen by the readers (children and teens). A new list is created every year. Click here for this year’s children’s list and click here for this year’s young adults’ list.
